A Place Where Sea Life Continues
This photograph was taken at Steveston Harbour Fisherman’s Wharf in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
It is a place where the life of the sea quietly continues every day.
A Walk Along the Harbor
During one of my walks along the waterfront, I stopped again to look at the fishing boats resting at the docks.
Harbors like this always attract my attention.
Not only because of the boats, but also because of the people whose lives are connected to the sea.
A Chance Encounter
One day something special happened.
While walking along the pier, I met an elderly fisherman of Greek origin.
He was slowly walking along the harbor and looking at the boats.
It felt as if he was revisiting memories from another time.
A Conversation That Stayed
We spoke for a few minutes while standing there.
The conversation was short.
However, I will never forget it.
With only a few simple words, he told me about the years he spent fishing in the cold northern seas of Canada when he was young.
His stories were calm and humble, but they carried the weight of real experience.
When the Harbor Changes
Suddenly the harbor felt different.
The boats tied to the docks were no longer just vessels.
They became reminders of long journeys, strong winds, and difficult days at sea.
More Than Boats
Moments like this are one of the reasons I enjoy walking through places like Steveston Harbour.
The harbor does not only hold boats.
It holds memories.
A Reflection That Connects
Earlier I wrote about The Quiet Respect of a Fishing Harbor, where watching fishing boats from a warm restaurant reminds you of the hard work behind every seafood meal.
Here, the story came directly from someone who had lived that life.
Beyond the Map
And sometimes a short conversation beside the water can take your imagination much farther than any map.
