A View Between Landmarks
This photograph was taken from Granville Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, while in the distance you can see the historic Burrard Street Bridge.
Standing on one historic bridge and looking toward another is already something special.
A Place Between Past and Present
Between them lies Granville Island, a place with deep history and an incredibly vibrant present.
Once an industrial area filled with warehouses and factories, it later transformed into one of the most lively cultural and waterfront districts of Vancouver.
And right in the middle of all this — the marinas of False Creek, filled with sailing boats quietly resting after a day on the water.
A Moment at Sunset
Moments like this are difficult to describe.
You stand there on the Granville Bridge while the sun slowly sets over the harbor.
The buildings of the city reflect the golden light, the boats move gently with the water, and the Burrard Street Bridge appears almost like a monument connecting the past and the present of Vancouver.
A Reflection That Connects
Earlier I wrote about Waiting for the Last Light, another moment when the sunset from the Granville Bridge made me stop walking and simply watch the harbor.
Seeing the Whole Story
But sometimes the view from this bridge feels even more powerful.
Because from here you can see the entire story of the city at once:
the bridges, the island, the marinas, and the ocean that begins just beyond the harbor.
A Feeling of Gratitude
At moments like that, I truly don’t know how to express how lucky I feel to be standing there.
