A Place That Draws You Back
This photograph was taken at Steveston Harbour, one of the most historic fishing harbors on Canada’s Pacific coast.
Every time I visit this place, something interesting happens.
The sense of surprise and the quiet fascination it creates in me never fades.
In fact, it seems to grow stronger with every visit.
Balance and Stillness
Perhaps it is the calmness of the water, the reflections of the sky, or the presence of the fishing vessels resting patiently along the docks.
Everything here feels balanced and timeless.
Harbors like this have a special character.
They are places where work, nature, and the rhythm of the sea exist together in harmony.
Stories Beneath the Surface
Standing there and looking across the water, the scene appears almost motionless.
Yet you know that these boats carry stories of long journeys, difficult conditions, and lives connected deeply to the ocean.
Moments like this remind me of another reflection I wrote about the quiet respect we naturally feel when looking at working vessels, like in The Journey Behind Every Seafood Dish.
Familiar Yet Surprising
Because when you return again and again to a harbor like Steveston Harbour, something subtle changes.
The place slowly becomes familiar.
And at the same time, it never stops surprising you.
