After the Journey
Sometimes the most beautiful moments in sailing happen after the journey is over.
This photograph was taken in a quiet marina in Vancouver, just after returning from a small sailing trip.
The boat was tied safely to the dock, the water was calm, and the city skyline stood quietly in the background.
A Simple Moment
It is a simple moment.
But it carries a strange feeling.
When you step off the sailboat and walk a few steps away, you often turn back and look at it again.
Almost instinctively, you take one last photograph.
A Living Presence
Not because the scene is perfect.
But because the boat feels alive.
After even a short sailing trip, the sailboat no longer looks like an object.
It feels closer — almost like something you want to hold gently, the way you would hold a small child.
A Quiet Thank You
Maybe that photograph is just a small thank you.
A quiet thank you for the wind, the movement, and the moments it gave you on the water.
A Reflection That Connects
Earlier I wrote about Travel, Sailing and the Quiet Spirit of Vancouver Rowing Club, where the harbor brings together many different ways of living with the sea.
Here the story is more personal.
A Small Relationship
It is about the small relationship between a sailor and a boat.
You secure the ropes.
You check the lines.
You take a step back and look at it one more time.
Gratitude
And for a moment, you feel grateful.
Because sailing is not only about the journey.
Sometimes it is about the quiet gratitude that comes when the boat brings you safely back to the harbor.
