A Historic Harbor

This photograph was taken at Steveston Harbour, one of the most historic fishing harbors on the Pacific coast of Canada.

The Hidden Journey of Seafood

Rarely, when someone sits in a luxury restaurant enjoying fresh seafood, do they think about the true value and the level of difficulty behind the journey that dish has taken before arriving at the table.

Sometimes, even if only for a moment, my mind travels through that entire journey.

From the chef, who uses knowledge, patience, and skill to prepare a beautiful seafood dish, all the way to the people who travel day and night across distant seas, facing difficult and unpredictable conditions in order to bring those seafood treasures back to shore.

Stories Within the Vessels

Standing in front of these complex fishing vessels, you can almost feel the stories they carry.

Every cable, crane, and piece of equipment tells a silent story of work, endurance, and experience.

And when you look at them closely, it becomes clear that these boats are not just machines.

They represent the lives of the people who depend on the ocean.

Respect for the Sea

Moments like this remind me of another reflection about the deep respect sailors feel for professional vessels, like in Respect for the Professionals of the Sea, because anyone who truly understands the sea knows how demanding and unpredictable it can be.

A Single Feeling

In places like Steveston Harbour, even simply standing on the dock and looking at these boats can leave you with only one feeling.

Respect.
