A Walk Beside the Harbor
This photograph was taken along the Seawall Water Walk in Vancouver, where the path follows the edge of the harbor and the marina becomes part of the everyday view of the city.
Walking here always feels peaceful.
Glass towers rise behind the water, reflecting the sky, while the marina quietly holds dozens of boats resting beside the docks.
Their masts draw thin vertical lines above the harbor, gently breaking the horizon between the sea and the city.
How Boats Change a Place
Whenever I walk here, a simple thought comes to mind.
How much these boats change the feeling of a place.
People passing along the seawall often slow down when they reach the marina.
Some stop to take photographs.
Others simply stand for a moment and watch the boats moving slightly with the water.
A Quiet Beauty
Even for someone who has never sailed, there is something deeply romantic about walking beside boats in a harbor.
They bring a quiet beauty to the waterfront.
They decorate the city without trying.
More Than Boats
For those of us who feel close to the sea, the feeling goes a little deeper.
A marina is never just a place where boats stay tied to the dock.
It is a quiet collection of stories and journeys waiting for the right wind.
Imagining Departure
Sometimes while walking there, I imagine what it feels like when those boats leave the marina and begin sailing beyond the harbor.
But even when they are still, resting in calm water, they already carry that sense of travel.
A Simple Connection
And perhaps that is why a simple walk along the seawall can feel so special.
The sea is there.
The boats are there.
And for a moment, you feel connected to both.
