A Place That Transforms at Sunset
This photograph was taken in the calm waters of False Creek, just beneath the iconic Granville Bridge.
At sunset, this place transforms.
The golden light slowly spreads across the water while the marina becomes quieter.
The reflections of the bridge and the sailboats stretch across the surface of the harbor, creating a scene that feels almost unreal.
The Effect of Calm Water
Standing there, the calmness of the water has a strange effect on me.
It makes me slow down.
It makes me want to stop walking and simply look at the sailboats resting in the marina.
A Memory That Connects
Moments like this remind me of another quiet harbor reflection I once wrote about in Two Bridges Before the Ocean, where the thought of a sailboat leaving the harbor toward the Pacific felt so close.
An Invitation to Stay
Here, though, the feeling is different.
The sunset and the peaceful water almost invite you to stay.
To stand there a little longer, watching the boats gently resting in the harbor, imagining their journeys, and wishing you could spend the entire night there with good company, surrounded by the calm beauty of the marina.
